Tea time, anyone?

A Love Affair with Tea

Confession: I am obsessed with tea.

I can’t remember when exactly it started. Maybe it was in college when I bought a 24-pack of peach Snapple to keep under my bed for late-night studying. Or maybe I was a tea dilettante until I had a baby and needed constant caffeine to function. I love the smell of tea, its texture, the process of making a perfect cup–all of it!

There are so many different varieties, too, from dessert teas to herbal teas to even savory teas made from rice.

I only used to drink tea that came in pre-packaged bags, but then years ago, some good friends gave me a purple loose-leaf teapot for Christmas, and my tea horizons expanded exponentially. Before I never knew what the deal was with loose-leaf tea. Who were the people who drank it and how did they do it? I knew there were apparatuses and accessories, but it all seemed so complicated and tedious. Then I got my little pot and realized it was really quite simple. I still love all kinds of tea (including the ones made for me by a barista at a cafe). but I enjoy the tactile steps that go into making a cup of loose-leaf tea (plus, it’s just so pretty!).

But What About Coffee?

I do enjoy the smell of coffee (despite once working at a convenience store where I would come home, jump in the shower, and my hair would smell like I was brewing macadamia nut and French roast blends), but I’ve just always been more of a tea gal. My Plume counterpart, Jennifer, likes both. I don’t have anything bad to say about coffee, but I guess it’s just not my cup of tea (Okay, I had to!).

Plume & Tea

Here at Plume, we include tea with each mailing, whether Basic or Plus. Part of what we deliver is Self Care for the Creative Soul, and we find that tea can be a great piece of that puzzle. Tea can relax us or wake us up, inspire our creativity, cool or warm us, and it’s a simple, tasty treat that we creative writers can have at our side when we sit down to work.

Just one of New Mexico Tea company’s lovely packages!

Right now, we offer smaller bags of well-known brands with our Basic subscription, and larger packages of tea from Albuquerque’s own New Mexico Tea Company with our Plus subscriptions (As we continue to grow, though, our goal is to source  tea for all subscriptions from NM Tea). We are excited to partner with New Mexico Tea Company, as it’s locally owned and run, it has a wide range of delicious teas, and frankly, the packaging is gorgeous.
