In this world it is SO easy to get caught up in what we don’t have, especially as writers. Everyone (but me) has publication credits, everyone (but me) earns their money with their writing, everyone else (but me) has interesting things to write about, everyone (but me) has immense talent… Then there’s refugees, wildfires, hurricanes, elections, tweets, things are going wrong in the world which makes it even easier to focus on negative things.
This Plume journey, for me (Jennifer), has done much to combat that internal critic, the Negative Nelly inside me. First, teaming up with Melanie, has been great. We can bounce ideas off each other. Well, honestly it’s mostly me saying “HEY! I have this idea” and Melanie reins me in without pointing out how crazy I am or even rolling her eyes– and trust me, I get some wacky ideas. Instead she helps me focus. She’s a great editor in many ways.
I’m grateful for the opportunity to encourage and inspire women writers. And the best part, while crafting blog articles, Instagram posts, and putting together the packets that form the foundation of our subscription, I’m inspiring myself! I’ve gotten my dusty memoir out and am working on a revision. I’ve also been meeting weekly with a friend to submit to literary journals– twelve rejections so far! And I’m taking that as an accomplishment. It means I’m getting out there, getting my work out there.
Melanie and I are grateful for our customers and the amazing writers in our community. All of our featured writers have given of their time and their words, and their support in many ways. This journey has also allowed us to connect with local Albuquerque vendors, who are creatives in their own right, especially our web designer and friend Janelle Gutierrez.
So thank you to everyone reading this blog, joining in on the conversations on Facebook, following us on Instagram, and subscribing to Plume. We wouldn’t have made it this far without you all.
