Support Local with Audiobooks

Hello, friends. How are you? We hope that you are all hanging in there okay. It’s a strange, overwhelming time in the world right now, and it is our hope that you are safe and healthy.

So many businesses are struggling and/or shut down right now, and one that has been on our minds (brace yourselves–it’s very on brand), is small, independent bookstores. Although they’ve seen a resurgence in the last few years, this crisis has hit them quite hard. This letter from Powell’s honestly made me cry.

You may recall that I’m a diehard audiobooks lover. Over the past year I’ve been using a service called Libro.fm, which is similar to Audible, but a model I prefer because it lets you choose a local bookstore (or any bookstore you love) to receive part of the purchase for each audiobook. I like this much better than continuing to line the already overflowing pockets of the richest man in the world, but maybe that’s just me.

Right now Libro.fm is running a special* where you can purchase a one-month gift subscription (basically you’re buying one audiobook credit) for $14.99 and they’ll give all of the money to any bookstore you choose. It’s an easy, socially distant way to get or give an audiobook. Not gonna lie, I gifted it to myself.

*This isn’t a sponsored post, btw. I just really believe in this business, and admire this extra effort the company is making to help independent bookstores during such a fraught time.

Stay tuned for a longer post about book suggestions during social isolation. Take care, Plumesters!
